Medina

Life inside the old Arab cities is a fascinating and mysterious micro-cosmos. Its architecture is introvert and reflects the strict division between the private and public sphere. Most houses in the medina are inaccessible to the outsider. The real treasures are hidden behind the high walls of the vast palaces.  The same is true for the mosques in the Maghreb that quietly hide their inside from foreign viewings.
